Every year, a special group of young creatives makes their way to Adobe MAX. They are the winners of the Adobe Design Achievement Awards (ADAA); they come from all corners of the globe – from San Francisco to New York to Amsterdam to Taipei – and they represent the top tier of ADAA competition.

This year, that’s an extra special honor, as 2016 was the biggest and best year ever for the ADAA: the preeminent global digital media competition for student creators. A record-setting 5,300 entries poured in from students representing over 200 different higher ed institutions in 66 countries. The ADAA is a broad competition, covering print media, video editing, application design, illustration and more, and at the end of the day, 20 talented students rose to the top in 13 different categories.

The mission of the ADAA is to “launch student careers”, and bringing the winners to Adobe MAX for an awe-inspiring week of events and networking with creative professionals is a major part of that.

This year’s winner experience kicks off the day before the main MAX conference – November 1st – with an agenda of student-themed events leding up to the ADAA awards ceremony, held at San Diego’s  Luce Loft (just steps from the Convention Center). MAX attendees in town for the pre-conference are invited to attend the awards ceremony and meet these talented young people in person. Grab a drink, mix, mingle, and take a look at the work that moved the student community this year – and will launch these particular students’ careers.

Opportunities to connect with other creative professionals is a huge part of what makes the ADAA so special. Columbia University graduate student Nic Yulo, winner of the Fine Art Video Editing/Post-Production category for her short film, “Replica”, says, “All of this is still a bit unbelievable. I’m just happy I get to go! I watched the MAX Bash sizzle reel for last year… I was irrationally excited.”

Once the MAX conference kicks off proper, the students are off and running on a busy schedule of learning and networking and socializing, but you can find their work peppered in throughout the conference experience. Look for their winning projects to make appearances everywhere: from the show floor video wall at the San Diego Convention Center to the main stage screens in between MAX speakers.
