There is an abundance of holiday imagery when searching for the festive season. But the emphasis is far more heavily weighted on the northern hemisphere stereotypical version: snow, reindeer, roaring fires and hot beverages all signally to the cooler temperatures and the subsequent sense of cosiness that is associated with it.
However, for those in the southern hemisphere, think Australia and New Zealand, these snow sprinkled scenes complete with a bobble hat on top just don’t resonate. For those below the equator it is Summer, the holiday season lying bang in the heat of it. So instead of the holiday imagery we’re all so accustomed to, there are calls for sunny scenes swapping a groaning dining room table of turkey and Brussel sprouts with surf and turf on the BBQ, winter woollies with bikinis and games of charades with surfing.
We’ve put together a dedicated gallery showing the more sun-kisses scenes of the holiday season, which will in no doubt put of all us in our Christmas sweaters pining for a holiday down under!
